C’MON MAN!

Former football player, now NFL analyst for ESPN, Chris Carter has a segment on ESPN’s Monday Night Football show called “C’MON MAN!”. Basically, Chris Carter finds a player or team doing something irrational, boneheaded or anything that just defies common sense and shows the audience a video clip of it. Then he says “C’MON MAN!”. It’s the expression that sums up in two words how he feels. How he thinks the person did something he shouldn’t have or something he should know better than to do.

When I go to Wendy’s and order a burger, drive home, open the bag and I have the wrong order, I think… “C’MON MAN!”. When I walk into Target and pass through cigarette smoke by the door because an employee is puffing away, I think… “C’MON MAN!”. When I listen to a phone shop of one of the banks we work with and the employee doesn’t ask for the caller’s name or doesn’t mention another product, I think… “C’MON MAN!”. When I see a manager not having daily conversations with her direct reports and not conducting weekly team meetings, I think… “C’MON MAN!”. When I see an employee on webcam not paying attention to a webcast we’re conducting, I think… “C’MON MAN!”.

Replay the last week or two in your mind, or even today or yesterday. If you’re honest and if we were collecting video tape of your work and your activities throughout the day at work, how many “C’MON MAN!” moments would you have? Think about it.

  1. This one ready hits home. It makes you think about how many C'mon Mans that happen to you and how many you give away. Let's all set back and think about our action.
