What are you prepared to do?

We came across this quote the other day by former Alabama coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant“It’s not the will to win that matters – everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.” While we’re not the biggest fans of Alabama… Go, LSU Tigers!… this is still a great quote. Now first off, we would argue that not everyone has the will to win. Many people are just fine with being in the middle of the pack. But if you’re one of those who truly wants to win then this quote is something you need to live by. How are you preparing to win? First off, you need to define the “win”. What’s your goal? How do you know you’re winning? Once you do that, now you can prepare. Preparing can be managing your time effectively. It can be developing a “stop doing” list. It can be setting a schedule of contacting references and advocates. It can be as simple as making a list of who you’re going to talk to today. Or, maybe you need coaching in certain aspects of your job. Here’s the deal, if you think you’ve been around long enough and you can just wing it or if you think you have it all figured out, then you are certainly not prepared and you are certainly not “winning”.
