The Weekly Meeting… Get It?

Are you getting tired of the weekly scoring meeting? If you answered yes, then be careful because you may not quite “get it”. We’ve been hearing excuses and complaints for over 15 years about weekly scoring meetings. These are the meetings where we review production, phone shop scores, net checking account growth and hear about successes and ideas from different teams. They are brief and they are relevant. Yet it’s no surprise when we get negative feedback regarding these meetings. Typically the negative feedback comes from those who don’t want to be held accountable for their less than stellar numbers or those who don’t really embrace or support the advocate and corporate culture or those who just don’t “get it”.

We ran across an article from Bloomberg Businessweek, “Imbedding Innovation in Leadership”. In the article, a few points were listed as to why these meetings are so important. One point was to “conduct extensive follow-up” and another point was to “share best practices”. This is exactly what the weekly scoring meeting is all about. Whether you are a manager and conduct this type of weekly meeting or you attend one of these meetings, keep these things in mind as you get ready for your next meeting. Prepare by getting off the sidelines and start participating in and supporting your corporate culture. And if you don’t like your company’s culture? Well… you know…
